UAPS Symposium on “Bridging the Population Policy – Research Gap”
One of UAPS specific objectives is to promote dialogue between population and development experts and policy makers. In keeping with this purpose, UAPS organized a symposium on “Bridging the Population Policy – Research Gap” during the 5th Climate Change and Population Conference which held (19-21 July, 2016) at the University of Ghana in Accra. During this event, the key speaker, Prof. Stephen Kwankye, of the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana engaged participants in exploring reasons that underpin the research and policy gap, and the opportunities that exist to bridge this void to make research relevant for policy actions.
The symposium presented an opportunity to increase the visibility of the Union amongst the conference participants. Members of the UAPS council present, the UAPS president – Prof. Samuel Codjoe, the General secretary- Ms Thandie Hlabana, and Southern Africa Representative – Dr. Leon Swartz shared about UAPS and how interested parties could become individual or institutional members of the Union.
