The UAPS Secretariat, the main unit of the Union is located in Accra, Ghana. From its inception, the Headquarters (Secretariat) of UAPS was located in Addis Ababa up to 1987 when it moved to Dakar, Senegal. Since November 2006, the Secretariat has been located in Accra, Ghana and is currently being hosted by the Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana.

The Secretariat’s current staff include a Finance, Grants, and Operations Manager (FGO); a Research and Programs Manager (RPM); Editorial Assistant, Journal of African Population Studies  (JAPS); an IT officer; one Administrative Assistant and an Administrative Intern.

UAPS hires ad hoc staff when the need arises especially during major conferences.
