The Mission of UAPS is to foster the networking of scientist, policy makers and other stakeholders in population and development in order to improve research capacity and promote evidence-based population policies and programmes in Africa.

The specific objectives of the Union are to:

• Support the training of the next generation of researchers;
• Link scholars for knowledge sharing through various forms of networking;
• Promote dialogue between population and development experts and policy makers; and
• Foster the visibility of scientific research on Africa population

• organizes seminars and training workshops to further scientific knowledge;
• organizes the flagship African Population Conference every four years to bring together world specialists in the field;
• publishes outcomes of its scientific activities in a variety of publications, notably the African Population Studies journal aimed at a scientific audience, policy makers or for the general public;
• maintains a website, to help its members collaborate in a variety of ways and to provide population information for a general audience.
