The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) appoints Louange Twahirwa Gutabarwa as Executive Secretary

The Council for the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Louange Twahirwa Gutabarwa, as the Executive Secretary of the Union, effective October 2024.

A national of Rwanda, Louange holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the Bangalore University in India. She brings over seven (7) years of dedicated experience in strategic planning, resource mobilization, program development, stakeholder engagement to her new role.

Louange joins the Union from the Health Development Initiative (HDI) in Kigali, Rwanda, where she served as Deputy Executive Director, Head of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Programs, and Director of Research. Previously, she worked as a Research Program Coordinator and Data Manager at Eagle Research Center, Kigali.

Through her previous roles, Louange has successfully led impactful health programs across diverse settings, forging multi-sector partnerships, including collaborations with government bodies, development partners, healthcare providers, and other organizations, primarily aimed at advancing access to quality health services and driving positive change through her knowledge and dedication.

She has successfully communicated the impact of the work she has been involved in through scientific publications and as a speaker at various conferences and other events.

Louange is passionate about leading UAPS into its next chapter of growth and innovation. She is committed to building strong partnerships with regional and international stakeholders while positioning UAPS as a leader and trusted voice in the population and sustainable development discourse in Africa.
