The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) is the largest pan-African scientific organization that currently has more than 2,000 members from not only Africa but also in other continents. It was established through the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa at the Third General Conference of Demographers, Statisticians and Planners held in Addis Ababa in March 1984 with the aim of promoting the scientific study of Africa’s population.
