The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) is the largest pan-African scientific organization that currently has more than 2,000 members from not only Africa but also in other continents. It was established through the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa at the Third General Conference of Demographers, Statisticians and Planners held in Addis Ababa in March 1984 with the aim of promoting the scientific study of Africa’s population. It is a true professional network that allows those working in the field of population (scientists, policy makers, civil society, NGOs and international organizations) not only to meet and discuss, but also to find a solution to the key issues of population and development challenges facing the African continent.

To enhance its effectiveness and address the concerns of scientists and all development community, UAPS established the Institutional Membership status.
